01:Which Tweezer?
Thin Tip: Good for grasping small, fine hairs, and plucking ingrown hair.
Slanted Tip: Gives maximum control.
Square Tip: Best used for removing coarse hairs or several hairs at a time.
1. Tweeze immediately after showering or apply a hot washcloth to loosen hair
follicles.
2.Hold a pencil vertically along the side of the nose. Eyebrow should start at
outside edge if pencil.
Hint: Leaving a bit more space will widen close-set eyes.
3.Hold pencil to outside of eye. This is where the eyebrow should end.
4.Smooth brows with a little moisturizer to help hairs slide out.
5.Brush brows up to find a natural arch.
6. Draw in the desired shape beforehand with a soft eye shadow pencil.
Hint: Don't use an eyeliner pencil. It will cause you to pluck too much.
7.Tweeze under the brow first, plucking in the direction of the growth.
Hint: If your plucking becomes too painful, apply a little anbesol (yes, that
pain reliever for teeth also numbs the brows)
8.Using an eyelash comb, comb brows upwards and trim any hairs that extend
beyond the natural top or brow bone.
9.After tweezing, soothe the area with cool, wet tea bags
02:Beauty Tips For Eyebrows
Your eyebrows add strength and definition to your face. Well groomed eyebrows
enhance your beauty.
You should pluck eyebrows before bedtime so any redness will disappear
overnight. In shaping your eyebrows use your facial features.
Use a pair of slant edge tweezers which grip hairs easily. Comb hairs one way
and then the other to remove loose hairs.
You should pluck hairs between the brows and any stragglers. Never remove the
hairs from above your eyebrows.
Pluck each hair individually close to the root. Work in the direction of the
growth.
Always avoid over plucking. In defining your eyebrows choose a shade similar to
your natural hair colour.
When using a pencil you should apply in small, feathered strokes. Starting at
the inner corner work outwards.
Blend the colour with a brush. To tame stray hairs just use hair gel and comb
through to neaten
03:Filling In Your Eyebrows
The trick to full brows is to come clean, then fill in the blanks. Waxing
director Eliza Petrescu of Avon Salon & Spa explains it for us:
* Choose a pencil and powder in the correct shade. Women with fair complexions
should use a blonde shade, those with olive tones should go tawny or brown, and
those with with African-American skin should use gray.
* Brush brows downward with a dry, mascara-like wand. To define the arch, use
the pencil to draw a line along the upper edge of the brow. Comb the brows
upward and outward.
* For added fullness, dust eye shadow into the hairs of the brow with a stiff,
slanted brush. Dip the brush into a tiny amount of powder and use short, gentle
strokes while applying.
* If brows have been severely overtweezed, brush the hairs in the direction of
the growth, and fill in any visible patches with powder. Avoid adding to the top
or bottom of the brows.
* Comb a clear brow gel up through the brows to set hairs in place.
04:What Kind?
The right concealer can hide just about every imperfection and give you flawless
skin. Gently pat concealer on with fingertips, or brush on with a soft flat
brush. Anyone who has less than perfect skin needs a good concealer.
Hint: Concealer should cover entire under-eye, including outside of eye to give
it lift. The outside of the eye is also prone to redness and dryness.
Liquid concealer is especially recommended for dry skin and for concealing large
areas like under-eye circles.
Solid concealer is necessary to hide stubborn pimples, scars and bruises.
A more natural looking concealer is a cream-to-powder foundation. Match it to
the shade of liquid or cream foundation.
Hint: With liquid or solid foundation, best results are obtained by using
concealer afterwards. When using a cream-to-powder foundation, concealer should
go on first.
Expert Tricks
* Add yellow eye shadow to concealer or foundation to conceal dark circles. It
will color-correct dark undertones while concealing.
* Blue or green eye shadow added to concealer or foundation will correct ruddy
tones and broken capillaries.
* Use the residue in the cap of your foundation as the perfect concealer. It's
slightly dehydrated, making it just the right thickness to conceal. And of
course, it matches your foundation beautifully
05:Tips When Applying Foundation
* Tap foundation on with sponge or finger. Your skin will look luminous, yet
natural.
* To give the skin a dewy finish, moisten a gauze pad or wash cloth in
astringent and gently pat your already made up face. The astringent (witch hazel
is perfect) will remove the matte look of makeup, while leaving the skin
radiant.
* Open your mouth when applying foundation to expose the neck area and eliminate
an obvious line at the jaw line.
* Keep two shades of foundation on hand. One will be suitable for winter, and
the other for summer skin. Most of the year, they will match perfectly if mixed
together.
* After your make-up application, take apart a tissue, and pat over your face.
It blends the makeup together while softening the look
06:The Right Foundation
With so many varieties of foundation on the market today, as well as
over fifty shade selections, finding the right foundation can be
daunting. If your skin is oily, you will want to use an oil free or
water-based foundation.
Dry skin works best with a liquid foundation or rich cream.
Test foundation just under the jaw line. This will immediately let you
know if it will be invisible on the face, The mistake many women take
is to test color on cheek, which is often darker than the other parts
of the face, or worse, on the back of the hand.
Women of color have yellow pigments, so they should look for foundation
with yellow undertones in oil-free formulations. Darker skin reflects
more light and is generally more oily.
Application
* Moisturize face and let it absorb. This keeps foundation on top of
the skin.
* Stroke it on and blend quickly.
* Set it by dipping a brush into powder and going over the face in
circular strokes. Don't worry about getting every bit of shine off your
face. A matter face looks dated
07:Blackeads Removal
Combine 1/4 cup boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of
iodine.
Let mixture cool until it's comfortable to the touch.
Saturate a cotton ball with this mixture and dab on blackheads.
This will allow them to loosen so they can be easily squeezed with a gauze pad
08:How To Get Gorgeous Skin
* Don't go to bed with makeup on. Makeup left on overnight seeps into your
pores, clogs them, and congests your skin. Make sure that you wash your face
twice at the end of the day. Once to get the makeup off. A second time to wash
the skin itself.
* Exfoliate daily. After washing your face at night, be sure to exfoliate. Use a
delicate scrub. If you don't have one on hand, a tablespoon of sugar or oatmeal
will work just fine.
* Use facial masks regularly. If possible, everyday is ideal. Again, if you
don't have one on hand, make your own. Mashed banana or avocado is good. Plain
yogurt also works well.
* Keep a treatment and moisturizer on your face, day or night. Put your skin
first. After you wash it at night, put on some kind of skin treatment, whether
it's alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin A or C, or any kind of special cocktail
treatment. Let that sink in, then put a moisturizer over that. In the morning,
do the same.
* Don't use the cheapest or most expensive cosmetics. Mom tells me that
moderately priced cosmetics are the best. They get the job done, and the
ingredients are usually pretty good. You have to keep trying various brands
until you find something that works well for you.
* Hydrate your face throughout the day. Whether it's a commercial product, or
one you make yourself (fill a spray bottle with distilled water, add a few drops
of chamomile or rose essential oil, shake it gently before each use, and spray
it on) hydrate your face, even over makeup, frequently throughout the day.
* Treat your face gently. Never pull, tug, or scrub your facial skin. Be very
gentle when you clean it, moisturize it or makeup on it. This will lessen the
chance that you'll damage your skin and get wrinkles.
* Keep your face covered when you're in the sun. As beautiful as she is, my mom
never lets anyone see her face when she's in the sun. She'll slather on a high
factor sunscreen, put on sunglasses, and a wide brimmed hat.
* Eat fresh foods and drink lots of water. My mom tells me to stay away from
"dead food" food that's basically not fresh. She always eat lots of veggies,
fruits, nuts, and drinks tons of water.
* Let go of stress. Stress can show up on your face, no matter how well you take
care of your skin. Do something your enjoy everyday, whether it's watching TV or
going shopping. Your face reflects what's going on inside of your mind
09:How To get Rid Of Blemishes (Pimples)
CLEAN!
Wash your face with a gentle, oil- and fragrance-free cleanser; preferably a
nondetergent one labeled pH balanced.
If you have oily skin all over your face, use a cleanser that contains benzoil
peroxide or salicylic acid.
Don't scrub - irritated skin swells around the pores, which can cause breakouts.
Skip toner unless your face is very oily, otherwise it might dry out the skin.
TREAT!
Apply a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or
salicylic acid over your entire face, not just where blemishes have already
erupted.
At night, use a drying spot-treatment product and dab oil-free moisturizer on
dry areas.
In the morning, apply an oil-free sunscreen gel over the entire face.
CONCEAL!
Use a small makeup brush to dab concealer or cream foundation (in the exact same
shade as your skin) directly onto the blemish. Use a fingertip to wipe away
excess concealer around the blemish and, if necessary, apply another coat of
concealer.
If the makeup becomes cakey, carefully wipe it off and start over. gently brush
powder (in the exact same shade as your skin) on top of the concealer.
Tricks Of The Trade:
* If you have oily skin and feel that you need toner, apply it only on the
T-zone, and rinse it off afterward (leaving it on can dry the skin). Use a clay
mask as often as every three days to absorb excess oil.
* To stop redness and swelling in an emergency situation (job interview,
wedding), ask your doctor for a cortisone injection. It calms down a pimple
almost instantly.
* If you can't get to your dermatologist (or needles make you squemish),
temporarily reduce redness and swelling by dabbing on a drop of drugstore
cortisone cream, Preparation H, or Vasocon-A eyedrops.
10:How To Fight Against Wrinkles
How you choose to treat wrinkles and other signs of aging depends on what stage
of your life you're at. In your 20s, when wrinkles are just beginning to appear,
sunblock is the best course of action. At that stage, skin can still repair
itself, and wearing sunscreen regularly will prevent further damage and help the
skin regenerate itself. An alpha-hydroxy acid product is also a good idea,
because it will lightly exfoliate the dulling layer of dead skin and give it a
smoother, clearer look.
When your 30s start to creep up (with a few more lines and wrinkles in tow),
retinol products and prescription retinoids, such as Retin-A or Renova (the more
moisturizing form), are the next line of defense. Both are designed to plump up
fine lines and stimulate skin to produce collagen, although Renova is the only
product approved by the FDA clinically proven to reduce wrinkles. If your skin
is starting to show signs of dryness, moisturizer will hydrate it and make
wrinkles look less apparent but won't make them disappear.
When wrinkles become stubborn, usually around your late 30s and early 40s, it's
time to see your dermatologist, who can prescribe a skincare regimen to help
keep wrinkles at bay. In addition, she has various chemical peels in her
anti-aging arsenal. Peels come in varying strengths, depending on the severity
of your wrinkles and age spots. Light, glycolic acid-based peels, done once a
month over the course of a few months, will help smooth some of the fine lines
(although they won't have much effect on deep wrinkles), fade brown spots, and
even out overall skin tone.
TCA (trichloracetic acid) peels are a bit stronger and reserved for deeper
wrinkles. They are used at varying concentrations and leave skin red and
sensitive for a few days. Phenol peels are used for very severe discoloration as
a last resort. The downsides of phenol peels are that they can leave the skin
permanently lighter and involve more risks than more gentle peels.
Laser peels are a newer weapon that only require a single treatment but are
reserved for very severe wrinkling. Depending on the type of damage you wish to
get rid of, this could be an alternative to a facelift and should be performed
only by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon who has substantial experience using
lasers. The additional drawback is the healing process; count on severe redness
and peeling for at least a week.
11:Tips for a beautiful skin
Here are a few things you can do to care for the skin that you were born with.
Avoid stress as much as you are can.
Stay out of the sun (or protect your skin with UV blockers).
Don't smoke. This does nasty things to your skin...
Drink lots of water.
Get plenty of sleep.
Be sure to clean your skin properly.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables.
12:Dark circles around the eyes
Perhaps the main reason for this is lack of sleep, but for some people it is an
inherited condition. As you age, the skin becomes thinner in this area and you
can see the underlying blood vessels and veins.
Other causes may be a sluggish liver, allergies, sinusitis, or illness.
So what you can you do?
Use a concealer, go to bed a little earlier than normal, try raising your top of
your bed (for sinus problems), cold compresses and plenty of fibrous food in
your diet. At last resort, lasers can help take care of the pigmentation problem
13:Winter Skin Tips
With the onslaught of winter come new challenges for maintaining healthy and
vital-looking skin. Low temperature and humidity, indoor heating, dry recycled
air and outdoor exposure can make skin lose its moist, healthy glow. L'Oreal
Consulting Dermatologist Lydia M. Evans, M.D. offers these tips to help keep dry
winter skin at bay and looking its vest.
"If you have dry skin, consider changing your moisturizer to one that heightens
moisturization - especially women who participate in winter sports or spend time
with children outdoors. Skin really takes a beating from wind and cold and needs
extra protection -- for example, L'Oreal Plenitude Active Daily Moisturizer
Lotion with SPF 15."
"For those with oily skin, I don't recommend mush of a change in regimen, unless
you're being exposed to harsh outdoor elements. Stay with a light moisturizer,
preferably one with a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) such as Plenitude FUTUR.e Oil Free
lotion (with or without SPF 15), whose gentle exfoliating properties lift away
dull skin for a more radiant complexion even when skin is irritated by
environmental factors. However, do not exfoliate with scrubs or masks as
frequently as in warmer months."
"As the area around the eyes can become dryer too, make sure they are receiving
optimal moisturization (e.g. L'Oreal Plenitude Revitalift Eye or Eye Defense)."
"If using a treatment product with Retinol such as L'Oreal Line Eraser, be sure
to use the formula with SPF 15 during the day. Skin can become more sensitive
when Retinol is used, and UV rays are still evident in winter, especially when
reflected from snow in winter."
"Factor in individual skin type and geographic location when adapting your
skincare regimen for winter. If your skin is dry, you'll be more prone to
suffering the effects of harsh weather, especially if you live in colder
climates."
14:Protect your face from the shampoo
When rinsing shampoo from your hair, keep in mind that shampoos contain
detergents that are stronger than the products that you use on your
face.
What to do?
Try tipping your head back and letting the water flow down your back
instead.
15:Puffiness under your eyes
Common causes of this puffiness are lack of sleep and drinking excessive
alcohol.
To reduce the puffiness, you can apply a cold compress until the area returns to
it's original state.
If alcohol is the culpret, increase your intake of fluids to rehydrate the skin
16:What to do about oily skin
If you have oily skin and you'd like to do something about this condition, here
are some good tips for you:
Cleanse only two or three times at the very most with a product made for your
skin type. Washing more often will only strip the skin of oil which simply
stimulates the oil glands to replace it.
Rinse thoroughly and then finish off with a toner/astringent on the oily areas
of your skin. The astringent can be used throughout the day to help control the
excess oil that appears.
17:Eye Brightener
Combine 1/2 teaspoon fast-acting baker's yeast with one teaspoon whole yogurt.
Stir until disolved. Dot under the eyse with a clean brush. Let dry and remain
overnight. Rinse thoroughly in the morning. This solution will oxygenate the
skin and diminish under eye circles. Place a flaxseed eye pillow over eyes
(available at natural beauty shops). It keeps eyes closed while sleeping and
prevents overnight puffiness.
Sleep Inducers
Drizzle lavender oil on a hanky and place inside your pillow. Lavender promotes
sleep-inducing alpha waves. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus to a hanky placed
inside your pillow promotes breathing. Clear nasal passages promote
uninterrupted sleep.
Hand Mask
Combine the teaspoon olive oil with contents of one vitamin E capsules (1,000
units), and one teaspoon milk. Massage into hands and slip on a pair of cotton
gloves. Wear Overnight.
Foot Softener Warm 1/4 cup petroleum jelly until it begins to melt (should still
have a jelly-like consistency) with lemon juice. Massage into feet and slip on a
pair of thick cotton socks. Wear Overnight.
Hair Conditioner
Pull hair into a ponytail and adhere with old piece of panty hose. Pour one
table spoon olive oil into the palm of your hand and rub hands together. Coat
ponytail until thoroughly coated. Cover ponytail with a shower cap, and wear
overnight. Shampoo and condition in the morning.
18:Dark Circles Under Eyes
To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth
and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes.
Wipe off the residue and apply an eye cream.
19:Glowing Facial Mask
You will love your radiant skin after using this recipe.
All you need is:
1 tbsp fuller's earth
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp mashed papaya
Mix and put on face for 20 minutes then rinse off.
